My PCP is the (mostly) best!

I haven't seen my PCP since...I don't even know when. It was a long time ago. So we had about 100 million things to catch up on for my physical today. I had to get bloodwork done prior to this appointment, and the results were pathetic- but it's all my fault.

See I was really really really good abotu taking my vitamins every day (minus a small moratorium after my friend died) until December, when our flight was canceled and we couldn't get home for 4 days. Since then, I was good about taking my Prilosec, but the others...yeah. I was lazy.

Well now I'm anemic (despite the fact I DO eat things rich in iron, but OK) and all my vitamin levels are deficient again, so not only do I gotta restart, but I have to up my dosage to double. AND with my anemia, just my little Flintstones vitamins + iron (which WAS doing the trick) apparently won't anymore, soooooo I have to take this god forsaken elixir. It's just a teaspoon, but because it has "teeth staining agents" i have to dilute it with water or juice.

Well, it's a terrible idea to dillute it with water, because who wants to drink metal water? I poured some of my peach tea in it, but that didn't help, and in fact, I don't know if I can drink peach tea anymore without tasting the metal. I HAVE TO DRINK EIGHT OUNCES OF WHATEVER LIQUID WITH THIS TEASPOON OF ELIXIR. It's torture, people. TORTURE.

So my husband, as cute as he is, went to the store (for the second time in 3 days) to buy grape juice. Grape juice is strong. You can't really taste vodka in it... so it will for sure, FOR SUREEEEE cover up the metal taste.

Not.

Metal grape juice puts a big fat pout on my face.

I'm THISCLOSE to emailing my doctor, telling her I'd rather die of anemia than take one more GD dose.

Yeah. And that's why she's MOSTLY the best, not THE best...for making me take this stuff. How dare she want my iron levels to go up? hahahaa

In a couple of weeks I am getting a pelvic ultrasound - I've never had one before. It's always been abdominal or.... much lower, so hopefully that will give some more insight to some of my pain.

Thank god my doctor understands me. And she better understand me when I freaking projectile vomit this elixir crap all over John. Or Chaucer. Or Dante. Oh my God. I hope none of you ever have to take this. I will never ever ever complain about liquid medicine again. Anything tastes better than that. Hell, I'd eat leftover jail food before this crap! YES I WOULD. AAAAA

In better news, as usual, she's the only one that seems to fucking listen to me and she prescribed me nerve pain medicine! It's Gabapentin- it is known to help burning, shooting nerve pain. We'll see!

The only bad thing is that bc Prilosec has magnesium in it, I can't take my nerve pain medication any time near my prilosec- I have to wait 2 hrs. THIS is a MAJOR inconvenience.

Soon I am going to be so doped up- I start with one Gabby, 100 mg worth (that's what I am going to call Gabapentin from now on), and I have to eventually  have 300 mg worth THREE TIMES A DAY. I want to barf thinking about it, but oh well. If this helps, I'll be so happy. But I don't thikn anything can help the fact when I sit back or lie on my left side I feel something inside my body.

It is also suggested I get scoped front and backwards again + esophageal dilation. Le. Sigh. Thank goodness the semester ends soon so I can deal with this...

In other news I got an A- on my crazy hard research paper for my beyond brilliant professor. He had pretty insightful comments for a professor who is known to "never read the papers" and even corrected one word on my works cited page. So to get an A from somebody who already knows everything that exists about higher education worldwide is good enough for me. Not like I can teach him anything, especially if I cite HIM....

Now if only I can repair my inability to grasp the concepts in my research class. I am actually meeting with the professor in about 8 hrs (HA omg I have to wake up in less than that then!) to talk about where I am going WRONG. Thankfully I'm not failing or near failing, but I want to be perfect dammit!!!!!!!

Ok time to introduce myself to Gabby and to to BED.

Comments

  1. Oof, that's a lot to deal with...I honestly don't know how you do it. Kudos!

  3. Oh that metal stuff sounds beyond disgusting. I feel I can almost taste it just reading about it. It's good your doctor gave you nerve medicine, though! Also congratulations on your A! :)

The Pain Management Trial Continues

When I last wrote, I told you about being a Nucynta trial. Nucynta is also a narcotic, but it does not have the same side effects (supposedly) of oxycodone. When I was taking oxycodone, I was extremely constipated. It would make my body itch. I would scratch myself to sleep. It made me drowsy and nauseous. Nucynta was supposed to be better. It wasn't.  I had said that the 50mg trial did not work, so I was put on the 100mg pill. This worked better than the 50 mg, but it still did not truly take away my pain. I was also still constipated (and when I talk about constipation on here, I mean it's bad- I don't use the bathroom for weeks and I gain up to 6 pounds just from being...full and stuck). Despite all of this,  I was actually going to be ok with doing the 100mg, because some relief is better than none. But when I saw my pain doctor on January 4th, she was quite surprised even the 100mg Nucynta didn't work, so she wanted me to get off of it. FYI- it's easy for me t...

On Saying Goodbye: Leaving Boston after 17 Years

Dear Boston and all the people who have been in our lives: Thank you for the (just shy of!) 17 Years! What a beautiful city this is. It was such a privilege to call Boston home. You were worst of times (cancer, other health issues, losing Chaucer and Dante, job losses/ unemployments on both ends) but you were mostly the best of times (meeting the best people, having Oliver, completing advanced degrees, advancing in our careers, growing as people). You quite literally saved my life.. While some memories are quite triggering, they are reminders of strength and perseverance. And I am filled with thanks having been in the right place at the right time . Now here comes a waterfall of photos   Us in our early days here, circa 2008 Our graduations from Boston College in 2012 and 13 respectively  (I was pregnant and didn’t yet know in this pic!) Oliver’s birth in 2014 When i first moved here, I was not city savvy. I was not public transit savvy. And I HATED the cold and snow.  17...

Can I get a break? I guess not.

I guess it was the end of April since I last posted. Something like that. Well since then I've finished classes for the semester, and while I should be stress free, I am even more stressed. FML. I believe I mentioned in my last entry that I saw my PCP and she wanted me to have an endoscopy/colonoscopy soon but I didn't go into details why: because  at least for the endoscopy order, I still have troubles swallowing and my heartburn is bad (I also just need to have my yearly cancer check), but as for the colonoscopy order, she thought perhaps I grew colon polyps, which is why I am so anemic. She wanted me to get it done ASAP, but with final papers/exams, plus the hub leaving for most of June PLUS my surgeon not being free til July, I booked my appointment in July. Well on Monday I had a fellow up with my PCP and she wasn't really happy with me waiting til July. She worked some magic and I had my procedure done today-- with my gastroenterologist- I'm still mad at him f...
